He
doesn't
have
a
cape
or
super-powers,
but
Steve
Posselt
does
have
a
kayak
and
an
ambition
to
save
the
planet.
The
54-year-old
civil
engineer
plans
to
paddle
from
Brisbane
to
Adelaide,
raising
awareness
of
climate
change
and
drought
during
his
outback
journey.
But
there's
no
water
in
many
of
the
river
systems
so
Mr
Posselt
has
fitted
wheels
to
his
kayak.
"I
don't
think
there's
going
to
be
any
paddling
until
we
get
to
the
Murray.
Certainly
there's
none
between
Ipswich
and
Dalby,
so
the
kayak
has
wheels
and
a
pulling
harness.
Water
or
not,
the
kayak
can
make
it,"
said
Mr
Posselt,
of
Karalee
in
Ipswich.
"I've
been
planning
the
trip
for
four
years,
but
in
July
last
year
I
thought
it
was
all
over.
I
was
in
a
motorcycle
accident
and
it
lookedlike
the
trip
might
not
happen.
"It
was
touch
and
go
after
the
accident,
but
I
decided
the
trip
was
part
of
how
I'm
going
to
make
a
difference."
Despite
heading
a
Queensland
climate
change
group
for
the
Australian
Water
Association
and
having
more
than
30
years
of
experience
in
the
water
industry,
Mr
Posselt
said
he
would
not
be
sharing
his
knowledge
with
people
he
meets
during
the
trip.
"I
don't
actually
have
a
lot
to
say.
I
know
a
lot,
but
I
want
to
listen.
I
want
to
hear
what
the
local
people
have
to
say
because
I
think
they're
the
ones
with
the
answers,"
he
said.
"If
you're
a
person
in
a
community
we're
stopping
at,
who
thinks
you
would
like
to
set
up
an
action
group,
we'll
provide
the
support
mechanisms
for
you
to
do
that."
Mr
Posselt
plans
to
leave
next
Sunday
from
the
West
End
boat
ramp
in
Riverside
Drive,
at
12.45pm.
"My
goal
is
to
cover
40
kilometres
a
day
but
we'll
have
to
see
what
happens,"
he
said.
