Epic
Voyage
to
Spread
Green
Message
After
almost
dying
in
a
car
crash
last
year
civil
engineer
Steve
Posselt
decided
that
he
wanted
to
make
his
life
matter.
So
now
he
is
setting
off
on
a
6000km
journey
along
the
river
systems
from
Brisbane
to
Adelaide
through
the
Murray
Darling
Basin
to
raise
awareness
of
climate
change
and
encourage
sustainable
living.
Mr
Posselt
is
hoping
that
his
trip
will
highlight
the
poor
condition
of
Australia's
largest
river
system
and
make
people
consider
the
efforts
they
can
undertake
to
help
reduce
their
impact
on
the
environment.
"People
need
to
be
aware
of
what
they
can
do,
the
power
of
the
people,"
Mr
Posselt
said.
"I
reduced
my
footprint
by
70
per
cent,
I
put
solar
panels
on
the
roof,
rode
a
motorbike
instead
of
the
car,
and
I
was
careful
with
electricity.
"I
just
acted
like
I
did
when
I
was
a
little
fellah,
when
you
walk
into
a
room
turn
the
light
on
and
when
you
walk
out
turn
the
light
off,"
Mr
Posselt
said.
"It's
not
too
hard
to
do."
The
journey
will
be
undertaken
in
a
specially
designed
Kayak
fitted
with
wheels
for
the
sections
of
the
Murray
Darling
river
system
which
have
completely
dried
up
due
to
decades
of
drought.
"I'll
be
walking
a
lot
of
it,
there's
no
water
in
most
of
the
rivers,
that's
exactly
why
I've
got
wheels
attached,"
Mr
Posselt
said.
At
present
there's
no
water
for
the
first
2000km
after
I
leave
Toowoomba."
Over
the
last
few
months
Mr
Posselt
has
undertaken
a
training
regime
of
paddling
the
Brisbane
River
and
trekking
up
and
down
the
hills
at
his
Karalee
home
near
Ipswich
to
prepare
himself
for
the
journey.
Along
the
way
Mr
Posselt
will
participate
in
forums
at
sites
along
the
river
system
and
he
expects
to
meet
many
people
along
the
river
and
hopefully
spread
his
message
of
protecting
the
environment.
